We are now in Hilo. Let the blog begin!
We brought Rosie with us. I don’t want to go into the complications of the “direct release” program for dogs but, suffice it to say, it is a complicated and expensive way to avoid quarantine. If anyone ever wants to bring an animal here – we can help you! Just ask! But, just know that the cost of bringing her about equaled our two plane fares together. And, unfortunately, it might be torture for your beloved animal – as it was for Rosie.
To help her endure the trip, we did give her some doggie tranquilizers but they didn’t seem to have the desired effect. She was fairly hysterical when she arrived in Honolulu which was where she was ‘released’ to us. What that meant is that we were the ones that had to take her to re-check-in for the short trip to Hilo, a mere 20-minute flight. It was this last leg that nearly drove her insane. I am very sorry to be so indelicate, but she vomited and crapped in her kennel and was simply beside herself with her horrible plight. But for the fact that we need to get her home with us in January, we won’t ever do this to her again.
The good news is that she seems to be adjusting quite well. And we are very happy to have her with us. But, I really feel quite bad about giving her such a horrible day.
