Our first trip to Kona

There is one Costco on the island but it is 100 miles away in Kona. We made our pilgrimage there yesterday to stock up. Now, unlike Walmart, I am not embarrassed to shop at Costco. As corporations go, they are fairly good – though not perfect by any means. Anyway, we bought a lot of food, drink and sundries there yesterday. Here are the non-food purchases (total:$127.30):



We also bought about $400 in food items – much of it stocking our bar, of course. We want to be ready for visitors!


In Hilo, the Salvation Army calls it's thrift store "The Sally Shop". How cute. However, they have a bunch of overpriced junk. However, the Kona Salvation Army store is a fantastic. Good deals galore. Here is our haul from yesterday (price: $50):


After our buying adventure, we stopped by Hapuna – the best beach on the island - for a dip in the ocean. Now, that felt great after a long day of shopping.

Ok, so we have kitchenware, food and provisions - now we just need furniture! Three bedrooms with no beds, dressers, desks or anything. The only furniture we now own: a couch and a table. We will turn our attention to finding a bed next. As you can see above, we have the pillows, so we are on our way. Stay tuned.
